Our Team
Tony joined the firm in 1975 and became a CPA in 1977. He was named as a partner in 1982 and elected CEO in 1996. He implemented the firm’s first computer system and remains involved in firm operations and administration. Currently Tony practices in the accounting, auditing and tax areas for a wide range of business and individuals including not-for-profit enterprises. He is a graduate of Miami University with a B.S. Degree in Business, majoring in Accounting. Tony’s leadership has also been called upon many times in the community. He was awarded the prestigious “Order of George” award for community service by the Piqua Area Chamber of Commerce in 1998 and the William Booth Award for service to the Salvation Army, also in 1998. He has served as president of the Piqua Community Foundation, Piqua Area Chamber of Commerce, Piqua Rotary Club, Miami County YMCA and the Piqua Catholic School Board. Tony has also served in numerous leadership capacities for fund drives for the Salvation Army, St. Mary Church and Lehman Catholic High School. Parents of three grown children, two educators and a CPA, Tony and his wife Karen reside in Piqua. Tony enjoys golf, traveling and music.

Sam has been with MWWR since 1985 and was named partner in 1989. He received his CPA designation in 1984. He holds a B.A. from the University of Cincinnati and an M.B.A. in Finance from Wright State University. Sam serves as treasurer of the Piqua Education Foundation and is a past chairman of the board of the Piqua Area Chamber of Commerce. He is also a member of the Piqua Rotary Club. Sam resides in Springcreek Township with his wife Linda. They are the parents of three adult children. Sam enjoys working, reading and bicycling.

Tom has been providing accounting and tax services to the Piqua area since 1970 when he continued the practice begun by his father. In the fall of 2005 he merged his firm, Thomas R. Murray Jr. CPA & Associates, with Murray Wells Wendeln & Robinson CPAs and was named a partner in the new firm. Tom continues his practice in accounting and tax for both business and individual clients. He holds a B.S. Degree in Business Administration from Xavier University, majoring in Accounting. He is a member of both the Ohio Society and National Society of CPAs and is a United States Army veteran, having served as an artillery officer. Tom has been involved in the community through participation in the Lehman High School Scholarship Committee, Piqua Area Chamber of Commerce, American Legion, Elks Lodge, Knights of Columbus and the Piqua Country Club. He is also a long-standing member of the St. Mary Parish finance committee and is Past President of the Parish Council. Tom resides in Piqua with his wife Joyce and they are parents to five grown children. Tom’s interests include golf, hunting, fishing, camping and entertaining his six grandchildren.

Mike joined Murray Wells Wendeln & Robinson in 1994 after employment in the auditing department of a big six public accounting firm. Mike was named Manager of Accounting and Auditing Services in 1999 and became a partner with Murray Wells Wendeln & Robinson in 2002. He practices in the accounting, auditing and tax areas with emphasis on audits of not-for-profit entities and audits of employee benefit plans. He is also the general manager of the Preferred Payroll Services affiliate. Mike is a graduate of Miami University with a B.S. degree in Business, majoring in Accounting. He has been a CPA since 1997. Mike is the treasurer for the Brukner Nature Center, Clear Creek Farm, Miami County YMCA and the Piqua Area Chamber of Commerce. Mike is a member and past president of the Noon Optimist Club. He resides in Piqua with his wife Christine and three daughters. Mike enjoys various sporting activities and operating a small farm operation.

Karen graduated summa cum laude from Wright State University with a B.S. in Accounting and Finance. She has been with MWWR since 1988. Karen was certified as a CPA in 1991 and became a Manager of Accounting and Auditing Services in 1996. She was named partner in 2002. Karen possesses a wide range of accounting and tax experience with emphasis in manufacturing and construction. She serves on the board of directors for RTI Industries. Karen resides in Fort Loramie with her husband Ed and their four daughters. She enjoys spending time with her family.

Betsey is currently a Tax Principal at Murray Wells Wendeln & Robinson. She is responsible for all aspects of the firm’s compliance and tax research functions as well as the training of new staff in the area of taxation. A 1981 high-honors graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology, Betsey was enrolled to represent taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service in 1987. She became a fellow of the National Tax Practice Institute in 1991. Prior to relocation to the Dayton area in June 1996, Betsey was self-employed in Rochester, New York. Her accounting and tax practice served individuals, corporations and partnerships, providing tax planning, compliance, financial reporting and bookkeeping services for over fourteen years. Betsey serves as a director on the board of the National Association of Enrolled Agents (NAEA) and is a past president of both the New York and Ohio State Society(s) of Enrolled Agents. She was recognized by the NAEA as their 2002 “Outstanding Volunteer of the Year”. Betsey and her husband Wayne live in Huber Heights.
