Firm History

The roots of Murray Wells Wendeln & Robinson CPAs (MWWR) go back to the late 1940s with the practice of Ralph Gunter, Sr., CPA. In 1972, MWWR founding partners Doug Murray and Steve Wells purchased the Gunter CPA firm. Doug and Steve both had experience in large international accounting firms and began to grow the new firm, Murray Wells and Co., by offering expanded accounting, tax and advisory services to the Miami County market.

The business grew quickly. In 1975, Tony Wendeln joined the firm as its first staff accountant. In 1977, the business moved to its current Piqua location at the corner of Ash and Wayne Streets.

Tony was named partner in 1982 and our name was changed to Murray Wells & Wendeln CPAs shortly thereafter. Sam Robinson joined the firm in 1985 and was named partner in 1989. Karen Benanzer joined the firm in 1988 and was named partner in 2003. Mike Hulme joined the firm in 1994 and was named partner in 2003.

In 1999, the firm name was changed to Murray Wells Wendeln & Robinson CPAs and Doug Murray retired.

In 2000, Steve Wells retired and we acquired the practice of Marion Fessler. In 2005, we added the practice of Thomas R. Murray, Jr., CPA who has continued his career with MWWR.

In 2003, we recognized the growth of our financial services activities by creating the MWWR Group. We have grown our businesses by developing "team" relationships both with our clients and among our colleagues. Our staff is diverse, talented and experienced. Click here to meet them.
